简单来说，评估师的职业主要从事资产评估相应的工作。在ANZSCO体系中，估价师的定义是Skill level 1，也就是说作为独立技术移民职业申请者需要有本科及本科以上学历，由于行业的特殊性，估价师可能会需要工作前培训，相关的从业经验，以及相关从业资格证书。
估价师的职业评估机构是 Vetassess。估价师要想通过职业评估必须在评估领域通过相应的学习，具体的评估领域指的是土地评估，建筑评估，商业或产业评估，机械，艺术或个人物品评估。如果申请者学习的是商科，金融或者经济方向的内容，并没有学习任何商业地产土地经济评估的课程的话，是无法通过职业评估的。
职业评估需求，还需要在获得学历之后有至少一年的高度相关的从业经验，工作需要满足并且符合当地的法定工资标准，每个星期至少20小时，累计52周算一年，在提交职业评估之前满足相应的职业要求。
根据相关行业的工资分析来看，作为估价师年薪一般介于120k到140k之间。但整体上说，估价师的市场需求量并不很强，虽然工资并不低，但是由于相关专业的开设并不多，而且大多数人对于这一行业缺少了解，就导致了相应的岗位并不出众。
